The president of the United States said on the topic of torture:
"... is to make it clear to the world that this government does not torture and that we adhere to the international convention of torture, whether it be here at home or abroad." However, he also said that persons should not be prosecuted who tortured and didn't know that torture is bad and banned.
HELLO? Ever heard of the human rights convention? Or even common sense?
That sounds like those folks who sued the US cigarette industry by claiming they didn't know smoking is a health risk.

I'm sorry if I offend any of my US friends, but let's face it, you are a strange kind of nation, aren't you?

Not any stranger than any other.

Are Americans in general so stupid or is it only Bush?

Excuse me?

I don't like Bush one bit, but if we judged every nation but occasional bizarreness of its leaders, not many countries would pass the test.

Dangermousie, I'm sorry I hurt you in any way and yes I'm aware that every nation has its own quirkyness, but with Bush it seems to unfold more and more. The US has come a long way, esp. under Clinton, but with Bush jr. it seems they are taking several steps back into time. E.G. the complete ignorance on global issues, like global warning and ignoring the Kyoto Agreement, the imperialistic way to rule the whole world, the increase belief in God's way (which IMHO is the Christian way to fundamentalism) and then there is this ... like the things I mentioned. Something that should be known but somehow Bush and some Americans seem to be oblivious to.

Don't worry about it! I was tired and cranky yesterday.

Bush makes me rageful (and that's not even a word). He makes my husband rageful, and my husband is normally a Republican, who nontheless voted against Bush twice.

The Kyoto thing doesn't bother me, because while I might not agree, I can see how others would consider balancing industry and environment differently. It's just the man so lacks brains. To disagree with someone's policies is one thing, but if at least I could know the guy was intelligent. But every time I see him he comes across as a SNL caricature. I have no idea why people voted for him, though I have to say neither Kerry nor Gore were very appetizing candidates.

I like to think everyone is strange in their own sort of way. However, sadly America has a president right now who seemingly represents where the US Educational system is, AND how ignorant Americans can be at times. Not all of us, mind you, but there's a lot of ignorance and looking the other way here.

Annnnd, Bush is an idiot. He can't speak properly, he probably couldn't spell properly if he didn't have a beta (*giggle*) for his speaches. He appals me. But, it's a sad truth to the American Education. Yeah, we leave no child behind; we're just making the smart ones more stupid so the idiots don't feel so left out.

I'd like to say we're not stupid in general, but every nation has it's stupid people, and where I live, they're overpowering. lol, back up inmy little hometown of 8,000 I never imagined people could honestly be so clueless until I moved to a city of half a million.
