Otoke?! What will I now do on Mondays and Tuesdays now that Faith has ended?
What a tour de force it has been. I'd never thought that this little sageuk would grip me as much as it has. If someone had asked me beforehand which drama of this year would become my favourite I probably would have answered with deep conviction Arang & The Magistrate because Lee Jun Ki's first drama after his mandatory military service - YES PLEASE!!! But it didn't turn out this way.

While Arang & The Magistrate was nice and all squishy and good things, Faith just blew me away. Heck, I admit it, Lee Min Ho as Choi Young blew me away. I had severe doubts he could pull off this role, but he did, and brilliantly so. He really has worked on his acting skills and while he is still cute and handsome and all, he is just not a mere model who is acting, but a serious ACTOR!
Oh and Kim Hee-Sun ... my newest girl-crush. I already loved her in The Myth with Jacky Chan and some other dramas but as Eun-Soo she was just heavenly.

This OTP just blew me away. We didn't have big love confessions, we didn't have steamy scenes (which in a sageuk are really really seldom anyway) but these two conveyed so much chemistry, longing and sexual tension with just one look. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
I hope the series will come out on DVD AND with eng subs AND in region code for Europe and I need it like .. ummm yesterday, despite its costs.

All in all this drama was an amazing ride. It took the audience from amazing highs to the deepest lows and while its directing was flawed and choppy at times, the overall story, its characters and the faith/belief/trust it conveyed throughout the series touched deeply those who watched it. Thank you PD-nim and writer Song In-Na for creating such a wonderful epic.

I have been staring at the screen now for over half an hour since I finished watching eps 15 & 16 of Arang And The Magistrate and although I enjoyed them I do not know what I should write about these two episodes.

Of course, the plot thickens now ... slowly Arang is regaining her memories as Lee Seo Rim and boy will she be in for a bad surprise :( It breaks my heart to see her tell Yu Wal that he is a good person ... if she knew he has already killed her twice ... it will wreak her for sure. And our poor Sato seeing his mother for the first time in three years and finding out that she is possessed by a demon.
Frightening stuff, right? RIGHT???!!!!

And yet it leaves me strangely detached.

What is happening to my favourite Moonlight couple???? And why do I have this empty feeling of dissatisfaction inside me? I thought it was just ep 15 but 16 was worse IMHO. Yes, a lot of things get answered but then again there are so many new questions, esp. regarding the Jade Emperor and the real purpose of teaming up Eun Oh and Arang ... and then the stressing of Moo Yong only able to kill the Heavenly Spirit of his demon sister because she is not in her original bodily form anymore ... which means Eun Oh can only kill his mother or kill Arang as there is also a psychological connection.

Ack!! I don't know .. perhaps I'm under the weather but this week's Arang left a lot to be desired for.

Ep 14 of Arang and the Magistrate

I love you Bang Ul Ri-shi!!!! You set Arang's head straight!!! I just hope she will re-think her stance on Eun Oh and SOON!!!! I want them to be happy for the time that is left, avoiding each other and finding clues is not enough, I need LUV!!

Anyway, what really got me is the fact that somehow I do not believe Ju Wal's anguish. Yes, of course he makes puppy eyes at Arang, but somehow I feel he still has an agenda and what does he accomplish by trying to make Arang fall in love with him? Is that some latent Oedipus complex or what? Knowing full well what the Demon is capable of he knows that he cannot keep Arang as is for himself ... Does he continue to pine for DemonArang if the switch is done? Eeeek!!!

Arang don't do anything foolilsh ... Let Kim Eun Oh figure it out!

Yay, Moo Yeong and Eun Oh teaming up .. and oh shit ... That face .. poor woobie ... yep it's your evil Demon Ommonie!

No preview for next week :((

So what is this ep telling us? That ones you have made the connection, there is no turning back and it will end in despair and agony for Eun Oh?
And I think Grim Reaper and Eun Oh will have to work together from now on ... while Moo Yeong is blood related to the demon, Eun Oh is blood related to the body so in order to kill the demon once and for all (and getting rid of completely gaga Mommy dearest) it has to be done by the two of them - together.

Watched Arang and the Magistrate ep 13 and damn it is getting more clearer and clearer and yet more mysterious.

Eun Oh is so much in love and yet he handles himself so maturely, so bravely in the light of Arang seemingly preferring Ju Wal, that I just want to wrap him all up and cuddle him (and do other nice things to him). His 'Arang' .. OMG, LJK's voice should be registered as a deadly weapon, it kills me every time he says that.
He doesn't want to be jealous but he tells Arang upfront that he will not accept her flaunting Ju Wal in his face (I wuv you, woobie!!). He knows he is not the master of her feelings and though he regrets not making her feel the way he feels, he will not meddle with her choice nor will he refuse to send her to Heaven. He is such a great man, bigger and better than any kdrama hero I have yet come across, (though Choi Young comes close second to Eun Oh, both will keep their promises of sending their respective loves to Heaven even if it kills them). I love the fact that he is willing to lay it all on the line, that he exposes her feelings towards her without demanding anything in return. So getting testy at Ju Wal, I think that is something that can be allowed.

The fact that he wants to live in the moment, enjoy the time they still have ... it's better to have lost and loved than never to have loved at all. So amazing and yet so sad because he will be the one suffering, or will he? If he will become the Grim Reaper then he too will be in the Heavens where Arang is supposed to be (as a Heavenly Maiden?).

Even though th whole drama is called Arang and the Magistrate or The Tale of Arang, she is not really the centre of all this but simply put: BAIT! The Jade Emperor needs to punish the demon and knowing his Grim Reaper he created a back-up plan .. but there is a big flaw in his thinking, if you can't even trust a Heavenly Creature do the job, how will a human succeed where the Grim Reaper so obviously failed? But then, we know that Eun Oh is not human (anymore) is he?! He was dead and was revived by the Jade Emperor, given gifts (seeing ghosts, the fan etc.) that all help him accomplish the goal to destroy the demon.
Poor Eun Oh and Arang, they seem to be simply pieces in a game of Baduk.

Arang & the Magistrate ep11 ..

What a great shippy ep :) And Moo-Young piecing it all together slowly ... Poor Grim Reaper!!!
Ah, shincha! Eun Oh going all Hana Yori Dango on those guys. That guy .. letting himself be clobbered half to death to save the girl. Aigoo!! Poor woobie!! I do not knwo if I want to comfort Eun Oh or clobber him over the head!

When Eun Oh touches Arang while dead she comes back to life faster than without him touching her (never mind the kiss of life *squee*). It took her much longer to come back to life during the first two deaths (where Joo-Wal kills her as demon fodder, and later when she falls off the cliff), but this time? Her wounds even healed quicker when Eun Oh touched them. Hmmmm ....
Eun Oh and Arang are definitely destined for each other .. and what exactly has the Jade Emperor in store for them?

Aww he got her clothes in the colours of his own (turquoise and orange) ... you big woobie you :)

*iz ded* Korean TV entertainment is pure crack ... either hilarious or it brings you to your knees. FAITH definitely goes into the latter category! Eps 10 and 11 kill me (ep11 - from yesterday is already out and subbed)!!!!
As [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie put it so fittingly: Choi Young and Eun Soo, even the bad guys are shipping you!
And how can you not ship a 14th warrior with a profound death wish who does everything to protect a 21st century doctor who in turn asks him to return with her to her timeline so he doesn't have to kill ppl anymore???!!! And then lying to him she doesn't need him anymore and him going all suicidal again ... OMG! Can't wait for ep12!!!
I just loved everything about ep10 and ep11 ... I don't know if it is intentional or not, but I love the fact that they from time to time use the bad guys as comic relief. Ki Cheol is hilarious when he tries to figure out something Eun Soo said (he is still thinking she cursed him with her 'Fuck Off').

And Nogook and Gongmin-ah!!! Make babies for Goryeo already!!!! That should be your highest priority right now (well that and getting rid of Ki Cheol).

I love that the ice warrior is gone, that he by instinct knows that Eun Soo is in trouble and he faces his enemies with a nonchalance that is both suicidal and brave. And Eun Soo slowly, almost unconsciously realizing that she has a very soft spot for our suicidal warrior and does everything (even lying to him) to protect him. You so need each other ... not only to get Eun Soo back to her time line but also to heal both of you. Choi Young, I wonder if you would ever forget Eun Soo's face - I doubt it.

This drama is so good! It has been a long time a Korean drama gripped me as this one, and a historical to boot. Heck any drama atm. Need to d/l it asap!

Arang and the Magistrate! Even though I said I only watch it for the awesomeness that is Lee Jun Ki, I really loved the last 3 eps. Character development. I guess Arang finding her heart is as important to all (esp. the Jade Emperor and Eun Oh) as it is to find out who is responsible for her death (and the impending entrapment/killing of demon lady). And poor Moo Yeoung - our favourite Grim Reaper is at the end of his tether. 'Come one, Old fart, tell him already so he can prepare himself!!'

I loved the scenes between Arang and Eun Oh - whether they are bickering at each other, full out quarrel or find themselves in these little awkward silences where they just look at each other. And LJK hasn't lost his hand at martial arts, that fighting scene with the ghouls?! RAR RAR RAR!!! But what is it with this fan? The writings .. is it some heirloom from his mom? Is his mom's soul still protecting him even though she was pretty gaga to begin with without a demon taking her body?!
And that Magistrate uniform???? Never thought it was so hot!!!! Omo, omo, omo - I already thought that guy in Sungkyunkwan Scandal looked good as a magistrate running around on roofs, but here? Aigoo!!!

And though Dol Sae really got on my nerves with his Young Master here, Young Master there bit, I love the fact that he might hook up with shaman woman, these two are just hilarious together.
And Jul Wa ... damn shame you are a serial killer from an early age (when he was eight? WTF!) If not for his adoptive father and that demon, he would make a very decent human being.

Can't wait for ep11!!!

Late summer has gotten hold of us and the temps have dropped again to a comfortable 24°C. While I have been out in the garden every day, harvesting and picking up fallen apples, my afternoons and especially evenings (where it starts to rain) have been filled with watching doramas.
Esp. Rich Man Poor Woman (Shun, do NOT keep the poodle do!) and Faith (with Lee Min Ho) and Arang & The Magistrate, Lee Jun Ki's comeback debut since his time in the army.
Total LOVE!!! For two years not one dorama, be it Japanese or Korean has me hooked like these two ... and sageuk at that. :)
