I'm thoroughly enjoying current jdrama Galileo. It tells the story of a young detective Utsumi Kaoru (Shibasaki Kou) and Physics professor Yukawa Manabu (Fukuyama Masaharu) and how these two arbitrarily different people work together (most of the time against each other it seems) to solve mystery cases.
Utsumi is introduced to the Tantei Galileo (Genius) by a work colleague who needed a physics scientist on his last case. Now, Utsumi whenever she comes across a seemingly supernatural or weird case, asks Yukawa-sensei for advice. Every time, Yukawa tries to get rid of her, telling Utsumi that these cases have nothing to do with him but she always manages to peak his curiosity and triggers his amusement.

Yukawa seems to live only for his science but through the course of the series we are getting to know him better. Even though he always claims that he is a science geek, he is interested in a multitude of other things that have nothing to do with science. We see him free climbing, playing squash, wood sculpting, doing archery etc. and he then tries to explain to Utsumi why he as a physics prof is doing all that - for science and not because he enjoys any of them. He is a very sexy, sporty kind of geek.

Utsumi on the other hand seems to live for her job. Even though we see her with a friend in her off time, not much is known about her and her only confidante seems to be the lady from Crime Investigation and, of course, a very reluctant Yukawa.

Shibasaki and Fukuyama play their characters very well and it is fun to see them develloping a relationship between Utsumi and Yukawa-sensei. She learns more about respect and scientific matters while he learns from her to appreciate the quirkyness and messiness of life outside his little Physics ebony tower.
So far, all guest appearances have been very good, having such interesting actors as Katori Shingo (the cheeky devil had a nude scene) and Horikita Maki (unfortunately underused in her episode).

Even though the cases are not very interesting and/or are solved in a very weird kind of semi-scientific manner, the series is fun to watch and from ep to ep those little stares between Utsumi and Yukawa get a bit longer and longer ... *sigh*
