After three years of trial and error (don't ask!), my first self-made Kimchi which didn't explode!! It's yummy and just perfect. It was a good decision to use real gochujang for it instead of just vinegar and sambal olek.

my big bowl of kimchi

After watching eps 1-3 it’s nothing yet to write home about … I have a feeling that the director really wanted to make this drama ambitious and he can’t decide whether to make a social study about materialism in modern post-industrial S. Korea with all its social disadvantages or a full blown romantic comedy with a weird male lead out for revenge.
So far I’m rooting for Han Se Kyung and her Chan, because damn, they love each other so much and HSK is so mature and has so much strength. Jean Thierry Cha(t) (Cha Seung-Jo) on the other hand is a typical pampered chaebol kid who is immature and just off the rocker. I will give it two more eps but so far not even Park ‘even as a second lead I’ll get the leading lady’ Shi-Hoo can make me follow the whole drama yet.

Another pet peeve is that Han Se Kyung is supposed to be an aspiring designer ... but she doesn't design!! She is told that in order to be a designer she should dress like one (in this case, wear designer brands HA!) but if she is really serious about designing why not wearing her own designs? Surely fabric by the yard is not as expensive as a designer brand, is it?

Oh and according to the show ALL women are greedy bitches who define themselves only via designer brands! Women are materialistic while men just give them the money ... only in Korea where the annual credit card debts per head are higher than even in the US.

List of characters ...
Seo Yoon-Yoo - the nemesis of Han Se Kyung at school. An über-bitch who does anything to reach her goals.

Han Se Kyung - hard working, a bit naive which she sheds quite quickly. She loves So In Chan.

So In Chan - high school sweetheart of HSK, hard working, has to take of his mom who suffers from cancer, Debt ridden. He loves HSK and he lets her go, because he doesn't want her to take on his debts.

Cha Seun-Jo aka Jean Thierry Cha(t) - typical pampered chaebol kid with a mental condition, a shrewd (if disillusioned) business man who thinks that all women are greedy bitches. He thinks he has it all figured out, was an idealistic love-blinded idiot (with Seo Yoon-Yoo) and wants to take revenge (which is really petty and childish). Grow up, man!

Just started to watch ep3 and 7.5 minutes in I’m tempted to just quit that show. Cha Seung-Jo is a whack head and I just can’t take him seriously. I really don’t care how or why he has a mental condition – he is just over the top (even though I respect that PSH goes all out in that role, kudos to him). Han Se Kyung needs someone who loves her and respects her and sees her as equal, not a big cry baby she needs to babysit 24/7.

ETA #2
Halfway point of ep 3: I laugh out loud because it is so stupid. There are cute moments but overall … this is just … I’m speechless, I don’t know what it is. I feel like one of the legal team guys who covers his mouth and storms out of the mourning hall during Cha(t)’s daydreams… does he have to puke? Or tries not to laugh out loud?

ETA #3
Almost finished with ep3
So yeah the little wiggly dance was cute and funny but now I know why I can’t get into that drama. Cha Seung-Jo has a histrionic personality disorder with him imagining all those wonderful (to him) scenarios and that overly dramatic behaviour and having had a friend with said disorder I know how challenging and hurting it is to be even friends with such a person let alone having him/her as a significant other. I wouldn’t even wish such a person on Seo Yoon-Yoo who is a gold digger but still she got the hell out of dodge. Kudos to her!
As for So In Chan … you idiot! You are just as materialistic as the others … giving up HSK because you love her and then go away to Brazil and taking her money? Asshole! Good riddance to him!

Overall, I think this will be a drama I love to hate or hate to love … still not sure. It IS funny in places and the music (Jaws!, Edith Piaf etc.) is very well chosen to accentuate certain scenes and PSH is .. WOW, he does it yet again, and yet … still on the fence and leaning more towards dropping the drama rather than continue watching it.

Last night they said that a cold front with heavy snow is rolling in from the west and that we should expect heavy snow fall between 6 and 7 AM this morning. Usually when we hear this we laugh, most of the snow gets melted anyway due to the warmer climate in our neck of the woods, esp. when the weather is coming from the West from the Atlantic ocean and the Bay of Biscay. If it is Easterly weather with the cold from Russia, then we get nervous but Westerly weather? HA! HA! HA!

Well, judging from the flurries of snow flakes tumbling like mad ever which way outside my window that weather forecast has been right, and the snow even sticks!!! Well I don't care if I get snowed in here but His Hubbiness™ is at work and needs to drive back about 50 kilometres this afternoon :(

December 4th .. only twenty days till Christmas and I still haven't decorated the house yet. Okay, I put up the customary three fir branch wreaths on the windows of our downstairs floor but apart from that and buying two poinsettas I haven't done anything. It is such a hectic time and I'm too pissed off with all the ppl around me shopping like crazy and making this time of reflection and peace into some frenzied time of materialism. Where the heck did my favourite time of the year go? With baking your own cookies? making your own crafted gifts? When you give hand made presents you are considered cheap, even if it is a well crafted sweater or quilt or anything. All ppl want are presents with a price tag and I'm so boycotting this.

What else happened? Last week I had my final exam for this year as well as after 5 years of remission and yesterday my PET/PSA results came in. After 16 years (since late 1996) I am now cured of cancer but still have a 25% chance to get it again in the future. Still, it's something. The first time in 16 years, where I have been without the scare of tumors in my breast for five consecutive years. YAY!
Strangely though, I feel kind of numb inside. There's no booty dance or full blown happiness. I guess my mind has to catch up yet that this scare is over for the time being. I'm officially a survivor now.

Birthday :)

As you might know Germany is not the best of places to be a lover of J/K pop and rock. The best of times you are seen as mildly eccentric musicwise and most of the times you are simply crazy or just want to be different at all costs.
Anyway, imagine my big ass grin when I drove in the car with some friends who had all insisted that I do NOT play my CD of Korean and Japanese pop while I was driving - in my car. So I switched to radio and lo and behold they played Oppa Gangnam Style :P

Take that bitches!!! :D

ETA: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, LJ??? WTF??!! Now you simply jump to the single entry instead of giving me the option to few ALL entries in my own damn journal. And that new entry thingymegig also is stupid :(

It is so good to just sit at the PC and just be ... being curious about new updates on facebook and twitter, being anxious to read new messages on boards, being overall relaxed and watching dramas on-line. No writing, no spell testing ... no nothing :)

No nothing? ... washing up, clothes washing, decorating for Christmas, baking ...
Did I say nothing? Real life is here again :)

Seriously, every time the father of Min-Young turns up, afterwards she drinks herself into a stupor. I'm writing the scene that leads up to the drunk sex smut scene with Jin-Woo and she urges him to drink with her to which he reluctantly agrees.
I even bought a bottle of Soju today for research reasons but so far haven't touched it yet because ... well I need to finish the novel :) Once I drink alcohol I get articular gout in both hands and writing will be out of the question for the next two days. So I will safe that little green bottle for Friday when all of this is finished.

*sigh* Only 1,679 words 'til I reach the 50k mark ... I want to finish it tomorrow, tonight it's far too late (half past 1 in the morning).

The soundtrack of my novel writing ...

Atm I'm obsessed with this song :)

Mr. Idol OST - Unfinished Song by Mr. Children (the band from the movie)

Autumn gales have started late last night and while we have glorious blue skies where tufts of clouds chase each other, the wind is a killer. Even in the sun, it is cold as the wind chills a body well into the bones. Our small little farm house is groaning and creaking in the eaves as the storms hit it with full force.

From late last night 'til now, I have been writing the worst, most difficult scene I have written so far in all my life, typing out words, reading them, deleting them, typing words again, deleting these in turn as well. This scene was difficult to write as I wanted to have some sort of consolation but not with BIG emotions and confessions of love following it. It was either too sappy, the heroine too teary-eyed or the hero just coming off as a crazy stalker who pressures my heroine into liking him. Hopefully I have found a middle ground now where I could resolve some issues but leave them at a strained kind of impasse leading up to the smut scene and the following fall out between the two (hey they are shooting a kdrama after all LOL).

Never in my life have I taken my writing so seriously like this year. I know I'm not an outstanding writer, I have learnt early on in my studies that I will never write the great English novel of the 21st century nor will I ever make any money from my writing, but this time around I have noticed that this is not just a pleasant past time but that I want to create something genuine, something others will enjoy as well. Not because they are friends or share the fandom but because they love drama and romance and enjoy reading a good story. So I try to make this the best I can. Hwaiting!

Don't forget to sign up for the Christmas Card Drabble here I will start to write tomorrow ... so look out for sage green envelopes in your mailboxes soon :)

40209 words ... still only halfway through with editing the script and so many new additional ideas .. one which has been festering in my brain for a couple of days now is this .. what if Jin-Ho and Min-Young who play the folk tale heroes Yoon-Seo and Tae-Rim are actually their re-incarnations? Then the falling in love bits would come much more easily. On the other hand, it would take a away a lot of their own free will, being fated to be lovers and stuff. *sigh* 9791 words to go yet till Nov. 30th.
Oh and I want a sticker for my car ... Writing romance and proud of it :P *crazy cackle in the background*

Advancing on 40k ... will I succeed in filling up the rest of 10k words with narrative and descriptions? I bloody hope so.

I have come to realize yet again what an amazing job professional writers do. It is not only the dialogues or the characters but the narrative and the descriptions of the world they are creating. It is always easy writing fan fiction because you have already established characters, a set world where you can pick up the characters and play with them to your heart's desire. No need of explanations of why, how, when. No need to establish a world, its physics, its history.
But if you create a setting from the ground up, fill it with characters, with life, it is so infinitely more difficult. I have a huge respect for that.

Sooo ... I might make it this year. 37835 words and counting. The story might not be the most original or even the best I have ever written (actually some of my S:AAB and Faith stuff is better than this) but as for an original story I think it is pretty okay. Still working in some narrative parts (descriptions etc.) as well as fitting in the story of the secondary OTP, oh the crazy secondary lead who still lacks motivation why she is as she is (perhaps a super huge case of hybris and selfishness??) LOL
Anyway, it is going good, which is a HUGE accomplishment on my part as usually around this time of NaNoWriMo I'm a nervous wreck and usually throw in the towel.

Watching Monsters ... WTF? Shingo-chan is so scary with that weird smile. Yamapi is hamming again ... a far cry from his weird but cute and wonderful Akira. Watchign this jdrama is like Mr Brain on acid only much weirder and scarier (Shin-chan????)

Sooo, it's the time of the year again and while I definitely don't have time to make cards myself this year, I will be making an effort to write a little drabble in my own hand writing on a nice piece of letter paper to anyone who wants one :)

Please leave your name and address (the comments are screened!)

Oh and you can make a wish what the drabble will be about, fandoms (the usual kdramas/jdramas, pop bands/actors/the other fandoms I have been in), dogs ... you name it :)

Okay, I have this 28 year old heroine who has never had sex, always wanted to wait for MR. RIGHT and then she gets drunk and has sex with her co-star (likewise drunk) and in the morning she cannot remember anything other than .. OH shit this was my first time and I can't remember shit about it.
She gets mad, she accuses him of taking advantage of her (in her mind, he is a guy and should hold his liquor better than her ... HA!) and generally they are both pissed of at each other and with themselves.

Now here comes my question: Is it feasible to have a relatively good looking but a bit on the chubby side (think Kim Sun AH in Lovely Kim Sam Soon here. so it's the Korean version of chubby not the Western!!) 28 Korean woman still being a virgin?
I know Korean society frowns upon skinship but let's face it, it happens, out of wedlock, before wedlock, one night, more nights, the lot. Other than making her a devout Christian (which is the number 2 religious affiliation in S.Korea after Buddhism) which I really hate doing if push comes to shove, how can I explain it without making her a stupid dweeb? Or maybe my Western upbringing gets in my way and in Asia it is still totally acceptable to wait till marriage/Mr/Mrs. Right.

*sigh*

Oh and it's 33312 words. YAY!!!!

ETA. and it is official ... we have dog fleas! *sigh*
