The president of the United States said on the topic of torture:
"... is to make it clear to the world that this government does not torture and that we adhere to the international convention of torture, whether it be here at home or abroad." However, he also said that persons should not be prosecuted who tortured and didn't know that torture is bad and banned.
HELLO? Ever heard of the human rights convention? Or even common sense?
That sounds like those folks who sued the US cigarette industry by claiming they didn't know smoking is a health risk.
I'm sorry if I offend any of my US friends, but let's face it, you are a strange kind of nation, aren't you?

Date: 2005-12-16 04:22 pm (UTC)Bush makes me rageful (and that's not even a word). He makes my husband rageful, and my husband is normally a Republican, who nontheless voted against Bush twice.
The Kyoto thing doesn't bother me, because while I might not agree, I can see how others would consider balancing industry and environment differently. It's just the man so lacks brains. To disagree with someone's policies is one thing, but if at least I could know the guy was intelligent. But every time I see him he comes across as a SNL caricature. I have no idea why people voted for him, though I have to say neither Kerry nor Gore were very appetizing candidates.
