You know I'm really getting more and more angry and radical concerning animal rights.
Today I read an article where yet another woman who tried to help a dog that was chained in a backyard without food, water or shelter and suffering from heat stroke was arrested for 'stealing' the dog after she called the police, SPCA, the owners and what not. No one wanted to help and so she rushed the dog to a vet where they trued to fight the heat stroke but to no avail. Now she is facing charges and police told her if she keeps mumm about the whole incident and doesn't go to the press, the charges will be dropped. HA! When the dog died in her arms, she went public though news reporters are not touching the story and so she posted it on her facebook account.
Why is it that you can be charged with non-assistance of a person in danger when a human is suffering, but get charged for stealing if you see an animal in distress and the owners don't fucking care??? US Laws are absolutely ludicrous. The stealing offense is still viable in a lot of states in the US and ppl are not helping strays or run-away animals because they fear the repercussions.
And then there is the city council of Belfast who seized a dog just because it is a pitbull. He has been with the family since he was a pup, loves all and everyone and instead of seeing their fault, they pressured the pound team where Lennox is staying into telling the court he is a dangerous dog ad that they are afraid of him despite the fact of photographic evidence where said pound staff is seen cuddling Lennox.
I could rant like a mad woman when I read this. It's just like fighting wind mills :(

Date: 2012-07-04 03:40 pm (UTC)I hadn't heard of the other incident, but it's so perfectly illustrative of the ridiculousness of a legal system that considers dogs (and animals in general) as possessions, not living beings. Imagine the outcry if she'd tried to save an abused child from that kind of treatment. The family would have been shuttled off to prison before you could spell the word. I'm appalled that the SPCA and HSUS haven't stepped up in her defense.
