Thank you all for commenting and giving condolences. I told my mother in law and she was very touched by your thoughts and sympathy. To think that her late husband is - even though unknown to you - in your thoughts, albeit for an evening, is a great consolation to her.
She and I give my heartfelt thanks to you.
Her husband, my father in law, was a great man both in physical appearance but also in his mind. He was always cheerful, a good conversationist, a good sport and stubborn as a mule :)
In about a month' time they would have celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary. I'm happy they even had this short time together after having been left by their respective spouses. I have known him now for 11 years and while I not always agreed with him in many world views, there was never real anger or aversion, only open minds, battling wits and smart conversation.
I feel deeply grateful to have known him.
