I watched ep. 1 for the second time tonight and I was - again - so disappointed ... the whole charm of the trilogy is somehow lacking, too stream-lined and just all in all too boring. I can't relate to the characters the way I still relate to the original trilogy.

I really come to hate the Jedi of the Old Republic ... they are a bunch of arrogant, self-righteous, strutting around idiots who think they can use the Force to reign the universe. Their fear for and of change, especially their refusal to support Anakin - despite or because he is the Chosen One, really gets my shackles raising. They are supposed to serve the Force and not vice versa.
I prefer the way of the Jedi after Luke reinstated them.

I personally liked Ep. 1 better than Ep. 2, though many feel the other way around.

I haven't seen Ep2 so I cannot comment on it ... German television will show AOTC next Sunday, so I will watch it and then Ep3 sometime other.
So far I don't particularly care for the characters :-(

I must admit that the prequels are more flashy, and commercial than the first three, but I still really did enjoy them. I don't think they are AS bad as most people say.

I agree with you about the prequels - they're kind of sterile I think - I don't care as much about the characters as I do in the OT.

I don't think you're supposed to like the Old Republic Jedi - I think they're part of the reason things go down the way they do...

Exactly. What is Padme's motivation? Why does she even tolerate Anakin around? She is a Queen for crying out loud, she is grown up and why should she pass the time with a whining Padawan?
What is Anakin's motivation, other than whining?
It just boggles the mind IMHO :)

When I first saw EpI I thought oh yeah real cool Jedi when I first saw Qui Gong and Obi Wan. But last nght I was really like no, don't like them one bit. I hope your asses get whipped.

Yeah - I really wish they would have given me me something to make me buy Padme falling in love with Anakin. His whining and petulance was so unattractive to me.

I still like Qui-Gon - and he seems like he didn't fit in really well with the Old Republic Jedi anyway. And I like Ep. I Obi-Wan. Ep. II Obi-Wan was kind of a jerk, which I very much didn't like. And I didn't like his and Anakin's relationship - I wanted to see them be friends, like Old Ben said they were..

I prefer PT to the OT (yeah, I know. It's unusual). I've first watched OT in the 90s when I was entirely too old to fall under the spell. I think OT are a lot of fun, but PT are more interesting story-wise, rather better acted, and with fascinating worlds.

BUT. I don't care for TPM too much. There are bits I love (all the non-Gungan ones), and Qui-Gon is wonderful. But I much prefer AOTC. I love AOTC and don't care who knows it :)

I think it is very valid which trilogy you like better, you prefer the first I prefer the original, no harm done.
It's all a matter of how and when you came across the characters and story I guess. When I watch the OT all sorts of emotions well up, like the first rush of adrenaline when I first saw EpIV, I was 11 at that time, my first crush ever (young pre-accident Mark Hamill), this charming rogue Han Solo, cute R2D2 etc.
I won't say that either trilogies are better acted. I guess I can just better relate to the OT, for me it is a journey of transition, of growing up. Young Luke is very much a role model here.
With Anakin and Padme ... I don't know ... I could care less, I can't see (yet) the motivation of both of them.

The same goes for me - I was 14 when Ep. IV came into cinemas and it was like a new dimension of movies. By the way, I had a crush on Mark Hamill as well and was really disappointed, when he didn't get Leia.
Like you, I can't see the love-story between Padme and Anakin, it just doesn't work for me.
A little help is needed with all these abreasions, what is OT, PT etc.?

PT=Prequel Trilogy
OT-Original Trilogy

Luke is my favorite in the OT. Imagine my surprise when I found out most girls went for Han.

I do think a lot of one's reaction to them (or any other movies) comes from when and how you first saw them.

It makes me wonder about how Lord of the Rings is going to appear to people in a few decades. I know I wil always think it wonderful because I remember the rush the first time I saw Fellowship, like my dream come to life. But will people who are accustomed to it on TV, with technology different etc, feel the same way?
