Can anyone tell me why there is this housewifey rule of appliances, preferably those containing large amounts of water like washing machine or dish washer, have to malfunction exactly when it is the most inconvenient time?

My washing machine just died on me and I spent the best part of an hour of trying to get the kitchen dry again *sigh* This is really the crowning end to a highly suck-worthy week.

Sometimes I hate my life :(
