I have had it really, I had a really annoying and strength consuming cold turned bronchitis and atm I feel as if I have been through a washer/dyer :s
One thing was good about the sickness thing, I read a lot of poetry, in fact I went through the study book of one of my favourite classes at university. First I only wanted to brush up on some stuff for my pupils, to be ready if they go through summarisation and stuff but then I was caught up. Found some old faves again...

The Sick Rose

O rose, thou art sick.
The invisible worm
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,

Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy,
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

- William Blake

and sticking to Blake, this one ... the only religiously induced poem/song I can stomach beside's Cat Steven's Morning Has Broken:

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold;
Bring me my arrows of desire;
Bring me my spear; O clouds, unfold!

Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

I think September, but especially autumn where the trees turn into these glorious russet and gold shades, are one of my favourite times. The sun light is still golden and warm during the day but in the mornings the first fogs linger in the air, shrouding and obscuring the city- and landscapes. Today was such a day ... I loved the cold air in the morning and for about a week I could breathe steadier again and without pain. It was wonderful :) Soothing, cold and yet with a fragrant I so love about autumn. The brilliance of harvesting, the rich colours, everything. I think autumn is one of the most wonderful seasons and yet so desperate and hopeless, so close to winter. What was it Shane Vansen said in Hostlie Visit - Autumn ... the most romantic, sexy, desperate ... Too true.

I found another favourite, a German poet this time who made the German language sound very poetic AT LAST, because he used the English form of writing stanzas and run-on-lines.

Herbsttag
Herr: es ist Zeit. Der Sommer war sehr groß.
Leg deinen Schatten auf die Sonnenuhren,
Und auf den Fluren laß die Winde los.

Befiehl den letzten Früchten voll zu sein;

Autumn Day
Lord, it is time. This was a very big summer.
Lay your shadows over the sundial,
and let the winds loose on the fields.

Command the last fruits to be full;
give them two more sunny days,
urge them on to fulfillment and throw
the last sweetness into the heavy wine.

Who has no house now, will never build one.
Whoever is alone now, will long remain so,
Will watch, read, write long letters
and will wander in the streets, here and there
restlessly, when the leaves blow.

    translated by Barbara Abbott and Larry Hauser

Speaking of Shane Vansen ... I'm downloading the complete series of Space: Above And Beyond. My tapes have been deteriorating badly over the last couple of years so a high quality digital copy will be great :) Gosh I miss that series really badly.
