Solar probe crashed into the desert

scottishlassWe have a proverb here in Germany ... in den Sand gesetzt (dropped into the sand) which means F.U.B.A.R. in general, and it seems NASA did it again.
When the solar probe was started in 2001 I already thought that it was a ludicrous idea to catch the probe in the atmosphere by two stuntmen sitting in a helicopter with only five tries to catch it. Even back then I argued, what if the parachutes won't open? Then what??
*SIGH* Guess they bought the cheapest material from the cheapest seller again. *whimpers*
