Usually, I loathe self-praise but this time I just want to mention that after having seen the official CHANGE subs by Massuki, comparing them to what I have come up with, was surprising in a good way. I even got the names right!!! Okay, so my subs are a bit strange in a few places but all in all I got the gist of most stuff and understood what was being said. Even the squid bit!! I got that right!!! Though the re-scheduling bit I got wrong .. oh well. I'm so happy to have understood as much as I could :)

Yaaay! Well done! You rock! :D However you say all that in Japanese. We haven't reached that part yet in class. ;)

(Btw - why do I see my own mood icons when I read my friends' journals?)

Uh .. no I don't rock .. I wish I could learn Japanese from the beginning. I mean, I don't know any Kanji, don't know how the words I learn are written and don't know how the word structure is. :(

Re: icons
I think there is an option somewhere where you can switch it off, but I have no idea where to find it. Somewhere in the customizing your journal thingie, I think.

Do you know this website?
http://japanese.about.com/od/japaneselessons/a/wheredoibegin.htm I think it's great for beginners, and it has writing and audio files, too. Also, the VHS Jena
(http://www.vhs.ralferly.de/index.php?title=Einf%C3%BChrung#Das_Silbenalfabet_.E2.80.9EHiragana.E2.80.9C) has some good instructions and hiragana papers. Last but not least, I can always share my papers from class with you if you want. :)

I love the Phrases of the Day on japanese.about.com. Especially those about marriage and dating. LOL Somewhere there was also a link to an essay on dating in Japan, and in there it said something along the lines of "Sex on the first date is not expected in Japan, but if you suggest it, the other person will probably accept since they're Japanese." ...!!! *makes moo-moo eyes* Shingo-chan? Wanna go for coffee? LOL

LOL yeah they are always so polite and then try to sing karaoke all night instead of having sex :)

Well, seeing how my libido has been asleep for so long, I'd probably be reading mangas with Shingo all night. *lol*

It is a mixed blessing, really. Though I can pick up on a language quite easily, I never learn it really well if I don't have classes. And I don't know how the words I learn in Japanese are written or how they look.
I wish I could attend Japanese class but here they are too expensive :(

Well... You are able to understand better and better anyway! And this is great.

BTW, how did you like the 2d ep. of Change?

I'm planning to watch it in Japanese tonight. Yesterday night I finelly re-watched the 1st one with subs and I have to say, so far I love it.

I still have to download ep2 as I first of all d/led SxS and watched that last night. As soon as I have it I will watch it, but so far I really, really like it.

It has funny moments, serious moments and Kimura is so different as Keita ... the gestures, the habits (like kneading his knuckles, scrunching up his lower lip) the squinting as if he needs new glasses but couldn't be bothered to go to the doctors ... wonderful acting.

... wonderful acting.
Yeah! Agree! These dozens of small "non-Kimura" details, gestures and habitshe he made up to create Keita's character - they are amazing! He's a real master now.

Absolutely, and I'm looking forward to the moment when the public realizes that at last.

Are you sure it will? I mean the general public for whom he's just handsome glamorous idoru Kimutaku? Oh, I want to believe that all his brave efforts to show everybody he's a first-class actor will not be in wain. In fact he's risking much, taking this kind of non-glamour role as Keita.

Wow. I am in awe. Your Japanese must be much, much better than mine because I don't think I would understand much with subs :D

I had help ... I had Korean subs which I ran through an on-line translator plus my knowledge of Japanese and the tendency towards flowery language in both Korean and Japanese helped me piecing it together. Sometimes, when they talk too quickly or use words I don't know I'm as clueless as anybody else not knowing the language.
I wish I could learnit properly though, I want to talk it as well, and that is out of the question with just listening to it.

You are speaking Japanese now, too? Truly a lady of many talents. *impressed*

No .. I don't talk Japanese, but I can undertand bits and pieces and then can piece together what the heck they are talking about, but most words still elude me :)
