Seasons changes
Oct. 24th, 2009 11:06 amI know I'm getting a little ahead of myself, considering it's not even Halloween yet, but Christmas is on my mind. Yesterday, when I put out our ceramic pumpkin lanterns in our hallway, I couldn't help but think of Christmas already.
I readily admit it ... I love Christmas, and I do not wait until December to start thinking about and planning for it. Thoughts of Christmas actually start popping into my head on a regular basis as soon as autumn starts with the changing of the leaves. Once the days grow shorter and the lights are turned on in the afternoons, I can't help but think about Christmas and the excitement (and work) it brings.
I want to go all out this year ... and I want to have another Christmas dinner ... friends, family all in one room and eating, drinking and being merry ... I just have to persuade His Hubbiness first.
Another year is over and still no news on the house project. I really are getting fed up as HisHubbiness is dragging his feet. If we do not buy a house by the end of 2010, we don't need to buy anymore because then we won't have it paid in full till the time we both turn into pensioners.
Anyway, I'm planning on decorating the whole apartment with cookies, and scents and candles as well as holly and fir twigs. I am even contemplating baking cookies myself and planning a cook out party at the end of November with a friend at her place.
Then there will be a traditional Regency Christmas again, which I'm looking forward to and still need to prepare clothes for LOL
What are your plans for Christmas? Are you going to decorate your whole house/apartment with ornaments and will you get a real Christmas tree? Or will you just celebrate quietly with family at home?

Date: 2009-10-24 10:13 am (UTC)Usually, I start decorating by the end of November, having everything in place - except for the tree, by the first advent.
I love the scents and colours of christmas - the music, christmas markets etc.
I am not sure, if I have the time to bake myself this year, but I really want to. And we usually have one big get-together with friends and family. Of course everything will be a little bit different from the last few years, when Mike did most of the organization and cooking, but I will certainly find a new way of doing things.
At the moment, I am looking forward to seeing you and Eileen in November and hope, nothing will spoil it.
Hugs and greetings
Alice

Date: 2009-10-30 09:20 am (UTC)This is a new beginning but you can still treasure a lot of memories and customs from your old Christmas to this new one.
As for November, I hope we can meet too :)
Lots of hugs.

Date: 2009-10-24 07:05 pm (UTC)I've always loved Christmas, too. I'm not going to decorate much here in Freiburg but I did stitch two Christmas wall-hangings two years ago and I'm going to put them up again. And of course, candles, and Räucherkerzen that smell of sandalwood - I have to have them. And my mum promised me cookies by 1st Advent.
I'll be spending Christmas at home as usual, and it'll be usual noisy hassle and fighting and way too much food but I've come to realize that this is my family and that I need those moments too to remind me of where I came from, and how much I actually love those people.
Oh, and Weihnachtsmarkt! I love being outside in the freezing cold, with all the lights, and eating shit, and drinking Glühwein! Last night Miyuki and I already talked about how we're going to drink Glühwein again this year. :D

Date: 2009-10-26 08:20 am (UTC)Regency Christmas ... I'm a re-enactor, meaning I dress in authentic(al sewn) clothing and act like a person from a certain epoch or era. My favourite eras where I re-enact are Regency (Napoleonic Era) and Edwardian. When you see documentaries about certain historical events, the folks that either run around in the background of a historic scene or play soldiers on a field are most probably re-enactors. It's a hobby but also an obsession :) Usually the season for us is from March to September, when all the festivals and battle re-enactments take place (we are usually booked for museums' open houses or historic TV productions). The group I belong to always holds a typical Christmas dinner Regency style, with original clothing, original recipes for food and all the other stuff you use.
