3 years ago His Hubbiness ™, Chica and me got into our car and we drove to a lay-by about a 100 km away. There we waited for a car to arrive from Spain. When it arrived, there were three transporter boxes in it and in one lay a skinny, beige-coloured, ratty wolf look alike watching us with tired, almost empty eyes.

Now three years later, the same eyes look at me with wise love, he is still skinny but with beautiful, silky-soft fur. A dog who has seen a lot, has suffered a lot but can now live his remaining days in peace and quiet.

Absolutely .. okay, so I'm biased, one always thinks one has the cutest dogs, but those two ... especially Cenour, my baby-bear, he is such a wise, lovely and loving dog. I always wonder how someone can hurt him so much. But he knows he is loved here, and he will never suffer abuse again.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear about you doing the adopting from the rescued dogs in Spain and having a good experience. My landlord did the same thing and her dog is horrible but I'm now thinking that may just be a matter of training and treatment rather than the dog itself. It's been over a year now and he's still neurotic and doesn't listen to a word anyone says.

All of our three dogs came from Spain and none of them we had seen or touched before. They were surprise presents when they came but all three turned out to be wonderful dogs.
Chica came to us and behaved as if she had never been anywhere else, Cenour needed a bit of work because he was ill and in pain and had already lost his will to live and Chandini, when she came to us in March 2008, was a panic dog. She went into stasis when someone tried to touch her, esp. men.
Chica remained a wonderful old dog lady till the day she died last year (cancer) and Cenour turned into a wonderful dog after three months of being here. After he realized he won't be abused ever again, his true character came out, that of a wise, old soul with a lot of fun still left. Chandini turned into a cuddle monster, loves her human papa to bits and is now a very confident young dog missy.

It was a lot of work, and dogs from Southern countries are different than from countries where animal care rights are effective. You really need to read a lot up on them, also illnesses are different (Leishmaniosis, Erlichiosis etc.) than from illnesses that the usual German or US American dog might attract. If someone thinks dog equals dog, then a dog from animal rescue from a Southern country can turn into a problem.
