Since 2001, I have tried to ignore this very day.
The day where the whole world changed for the worst. The day a lot of ppl lost their lives for the hybris of a couple of men. The day I lost a long time friend in the North Tower of the WTC.
For years I have been shocked, sad, infuriated and terrorized by this day and the days and weeks following when I had to fly over to NYC.
I still don't know how I managed to walk into my friend's apartment and see all this normalcy. The cup the sink, the clothes in the bed room she chose and abandoned the very morning to go to work. The apartment was still filled so much with the spirit of my friend, it felt she had just left and would return later on. But no more.
For seven years I held on to the sadness, the fury and the emotional freeze this day brought. So the following is the celebration of life, of good ... of something worthwhile in a world of madness.
To all who celebrate their birthdays on this very day and have to live with the aftermath that is 9/11 ...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! May we all never experience such a sad day as we did 7 years ago ever again and that your following birthdays are only filled with joy and happiness.
