Happy Birthday, WORLD WIDE WEB!!!

In 1993 the world wide web had been opened to the public and the first pages on the net were grey with black Times New Roman script and very pixelated gifs.
In 1994 I got my first ever email address - fritzu@uni-duesseldorf.de (which is not valid anymore) and was a regular visitor of the URZ (university computer centre). 1995 I found my first fandom on the net - Space: Above And Beyond.
In early 1996 I got my first Windows PC which I promptly turned into a personal computer literally. Nothing was on default settings anymore :)

15 years ... and I'm still not sure if it is a joy or a bane in my existence :)

Amen to that. About 9 years ago a friend of mine almost got killed by walking onto the street in shock after I'd told her "I oppose computers and refuse to use them!" Or so Beate tells the story to this day. She is an older friend of mine, mother of three boys whom I later tutored in English. After the above incident, Beate decided that my pitiful situation needed immediate remedy, and as her family was so well stocked with all kinds of computers, her husband set up their old notebook for me. It was my first PC, I typed my early Orlando Bloom fanfiction on there (though the first story I ever typed on there was a Sean Bean fanfic!). In the first days I sat in front of it in trembling awe, forever afraid that with every key I pressed the thing would explode or I would delete everything or just break it. But I loved that notebook, and the bloody nuisance the external floppy disc drive was, and when it broke, so did my heart.

It feels so strange that nowadays I know things about computers that others don't. And I'm talking about basic, little things here. My colleagues already stare at me in awe when I find a missing folder or install the scanner or get the beamer to work. I know I still have baby computer knowledge, but at least I'm not that afraid of them anymore. I love my computer, and as it was set up by a true nerd, I know I've got a good one there (my youngest brother is highly jealous of it). The other day when I thought it was broken and it turned out to be only the keyboard, I even gave it a kiss. :D

Without computers and the internet, those devillish things I never ever wanted anything to do with, I wouldn't have met so many wonderful people, so... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WWW!

Oh yeah ... our computers, our babies. I fret and toss and turn if my baby isn't working ...:)

Speaking of my baby genius... I think I just figured out how Doris' iPod works. Oh, I am SO good! ;p

I remember when my neighbour got on the net for the first time with AOHELL. I was hooked, always round her house on it! It became like an obsession. And now, all these years later if I loose my wireless connection, I feel like I've lost one of my limbs! LOL!

Yeah because news, tv etc everything is on the net. I watch TV via the net, most of my friends are on the net, I work on the net . I feel almost non-existent when I don't have connection.

I watch TV on the net too, like recent Simpsons episodes and other things that arn't over here yet from the States.

Most of my friends are all on the net too, if I lost contact on a daily bases with any of them, I'd go loopy!

Both, I suppose. :)
I admit that I begin to feel nervous, if there are some probems with the Internet connection on my home PC. ^___^

I don't, but I have it on my mobile phone under #1. :)

Well, sometimes my PC and the Inet make me mad, but if not them I'd never meet a lot of ppl, including you! So they are really good for something!

Seems like Kimura - in order to push the marriage - got Shizuka pregnant deliberately? He seems to say, he had already decided to marry her before she told him she was preggers.
I'm glad it wasn't a shot gun marriage.

Honestly I never thought it was a a shot gun marriage. They both seems to be too strong persons for it. And fair players, too.

But even before reading this press conf. I had a feeling that they may be made a child deliberately, exactly to get for Takuya a permission for marriage - by putting JE bosses down to the fact that now he simply _has_ to marry Shizuka.

Ooooh. I remember first discovering internet in 1996, when my dad got a line at home through the university line. And it took sooooo long to download anything, LOL. As for email address, I got my first one in 1998 I think.. and it certainly doesn't work anymore, either!!

Well I certainly love the internet because it is a source of sooooo many things. Goodness knows, I've become an internet addict for all I know ^o^

It's strange isn't it? If the world wide web wasn't in existence, we wouldn't have met ... heck, lifejournal wouldn't be here.

*hugs*

Absolutely right! That's part of the reason why I love WWW so much. I meet some of the nicest, coolest people around whom I would never have met otherwise in my lifetime! :)

*huggles back*
