You know I never liked Westerns ... I don't like this genre but thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kitsune714 this one might be the exception :)

Imagine a world where the Japanese have taken over the US and they are all back in Western time. They all speak heavily accentuated English or Engrish and guys like Katori Shingo (in a long blonde wig and abominable Engrish) and Sato Koichi show up. Imagine the war of the roses .. with a red and white side and all more or less look for a motherlode of gold ... and imagine Quentin Tarantino switching from a Southern drawl to the same badly pronounced English as Katori Shingo speaks ....

I'm only ten minutes into the movie and it is pure crack!!! The movie, which is a (not) so serious take on all those spaghetti westerns of the 1970's, has a huge cast of big Japanese actors ... Sato Koichi, Hideaki Ito, Oguri Shun, Ando Masanobu (who speaks very good English and you can hear he understands every word he says). OMG and Momoi Kaori!!! She is one tough cookie and I actually think she got younger - already in Bushi no Ichibun she looked lots younger than she actually is.

A cross between Kabuki and Italian Western ... strange ... cracky.

ETA:
Shun-chan ... I think you missed some English classes at school - still you are cute as the upright, honorable dad - too bad you get shot in the back.

Iseya Yusuke? Who is this guy? Probably a model ... I wonder why a big name like Ando plays your underling with a really bad overbite and you get to play the White General? Sure you're pretty and your English is good but we are talking ANDO MASANOBU here!! He might not be as tall as you but IMHO he is much, much prettier and his American drawl is good (when he doesn't wrestle with the overbite that is).

Sato-san!! After seeing you in so many honorable and cracky roles as in Pride and Sapuri, you sure acquired a big gun in your pocket ... talk about penis envy. LOL - you are cracktastic, looking like a Mad Max bad guy minus the cool cars.

Hideaki Ito ... hmmm ... I think I have seen him before and you didn't strike me as really Japanese looking and this feeling has increased. Most of the time, when you talk as Django you remind me of a half-blood native American. And is this his real voice or was he dubbed?

Momoi Kaori kicks ass ... YOU GO GAL!!!

All in all, if you want to have fun, it is a very entertaining movie to watch ... don't take it too seriously otherwise you'll get disappointed. It is fun to see Japanese guys runnning around in a town that is a mix of Japanese temples and Western saloons in a clearly visibly accurate JAPANESE landscape pretending this is somewhere in Nevada. Wearing 1950's style College jackets pimped with silk yukata sleeves and stuff in white (Genji gang) and red (Heike gang). Guys running around in battle (running like the typical Samurai, knees bend and holding their weapons high) and obviously having fun playing Cowboys and Indians. *rotfl*

Gods NO!!
The Western movie is called Sukiyaki Western Django and you can find it at [livejournal.com profile] jdramas.
Bushi no Ichibun is this movie (http://scottishlass.livejournal.com/200941.html) with Kimura Takuya and Momoi Kaori.

okay, now that I've started watching it, it's pure Miike, OMG, the colours, the Engrish, the crossing of so many genres I can't even keep track. and you don't know Iseya Yusuke? hmm...he's really good, he's been in a lot of movies. First one I saw him in was "After Life", excellent film. Last thing I saw him in was "Memories of Matsuko" but checking IMDB, wow, he did five films in 2007! Busy man! I'm really behind on his filmography.

LOL - WHAT????!!!! Not that I have a problem with imagining a world in which Katori Shingo shows up. Seems like I've been doing nothing else since my birthday. ;) But as for the film... I'm sorry, but... WHAT??? :D

Yeah I didn't know Shingo had done that movie (and he has only a small role at the beginning but with Quentin Tarantino no less). But his English is almost non-recognisable. He could speak Finnish for all I know.

But he looks strangely sexy as blonde-haired desperado:
