scottishlass: (Sewing 02)

As I have been staying at home since last year and not working in a continuous fashion (authors are fickle creatures and even book publishing is seasonal), living on a single steady income is increasingly difficult. Due to my cancer I can't work on a normal job anymore as any employer wouldn't touch me with a 3 foot pole (too expensive for them if I fall sick after employing me).
So I'm thinking and re-thinking about opening an etsy shop in the new year. Cottage industry here I come. Though I still don't know what to offer on sale, only paintings, only quilts, only plushies or something of everything that is somehow connected through looks (I am thinking about making Chica and Cenour plushies etc.)
A catchy name for the shop and the goods also has to be found and of course shipping, packaging etc. I have to think about. I want to have a distinct look that ppl know these goods are stuff made by me. I am working on a cute rendition of Chica and Cenour as plush pets, thinking of fabric to imitate their fur as well as thinking of easily to reproduce patterns to make these plushies. The idea for all this I got when I started on the craft meme items which will be finished hopefully before Christmas.

So lot sof things to think about and to finance first *icks*

Thank you :)
I thought I could make a bit of money from the fact I'm home alone and always sewing anyway when I don't sit in front of the computer.

I was thinking about something similar for the coming year. I still don't have an estimate date to start it all but I do have a plan more or less in my head and on paper. I already signed up at etsy around a month ago or so.

Good luck with whatever you have in mind!!! ;)

It seems crafting and etsy is becoming real popular :)
I hope you can put all your plans to fruition. I keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Atm I'm looking into printing labels etc. What is cheaper doing it on my colour laser printer or at a small shop locally. The cartridges for the laser printer are expensive and considering how quickly they are empty, I'm seriously considering the shop.
But first I have to make sure I have goods to sell :)

Yes, that's an issue I'm also considering. But I was thinking more about the fabric labels I want to put in everything I'll make... because I have and idea in mind and the place I know I am not sure if they'll do what I want.

The printing labels, I was thinking printing them myself... but now that you tell me about the cartridges... hmm, I'll have to consider the price, although I'm pretty sure my printer isn't the one with the most expensive carts.

I'd love to see how all this works for you. I'm sure it will be a success, but I'll have my fingers crossed for you too! I'd also love if you could tell me when you have things there, to take a look as potential client, I mean ;)

I think cottage industry is a great idea. And what about translations? There is a site on the internet called Elance where you can pitch for jobs. Speaking of money - I'm still waiting for an invoice from you for my wonderful site...(Sorry I'm slack about chasing it up).

another idea. I know a writer who regularly writes for A Cup of Comfort... At the moment they are looking for stories on surviving cancer. Just google it and you will find everything you need on their site. Good Luck!
