Drown Under

So far June and July have been unusually cold and rainy ... the Rhine has been high for a couple of weeks now and today, it really got scary.

First it seemed to stop soon



But then it really started to pour - in the back you see the Rhine which is swilled up to the extent that you can actually see him although the road is about ten meter high above the Rhine



Really strange weather ... and it is sooo cold. Since last week I'm wearing my winter clothes again. I'm wearing wool socks for Cripesake :(

wow, that IS really freaky! when was the last time it was that high? weather around the world seems to be a bit extreme lately, crazy!

It usually is that high in winter when there is heavy snowfall from the Alps down to heavy raining in half of Europe. We are quite near of the River Rhine's ending in the North Sea so we get our occasional floods, but this is ridiculous. Even if it isn't this hot, the Rhine has sandy beaches for bathing in the summer. Like this:
As you can see there is the high wall in the back. The place where Chica stands is under water though now.

wow, Chica is so cute! does she like to swim?
that's awful about the flooding; any sign of it stopping soon? *hopes* it very nearly rained here yesterday and I got so excited! didn't realize how much I'd miss rain till there's hardly any.

Thank you :) Chica is a bit ambiguous about water, she doesn't like rain but she likes to swim :) To her rain is like acid in her fur and she tries to cut her walks short when it rains, but once we are at the Rhine she swims with me and loves to rescue her toy.

Cologne is having trouble again with flooding as well as some other cities who have been building right up to the edge of the River. My home town has a lot of flood meadows and it is forbidden to built right up to the edge, so we are usually okay.

and I'm really tired of this weather, not that I mind rain per se, but enough already..feels like I haven't seen the sun in forever...and it is summer after all...

Today is really lovely, it is warm (not hot) and the sun is shining. It is really weird, yesterday the same time it was so cold I wore a cardigan over my long-.sleeved sweater and had a rug over my legs while sewing.
Today we had breakfast on the balcony ... really weird :(
