Whatever he has done in his private life, I have to say that I like Salman Khan when he is in a serious role. I liked him a lot in Lucky even though the leading female role was a bit lacking. Not due to lack of acting ability but in lack of age. The girl was far too young to play alongside Salman Khan even though he pulled off the late 20something quite well.
The story of the movie would have worked also if the female lead had been older, perhaps an university student raised in a traditional household and therefore as innocent as the late teen Lucky. Otheriwse Russia as a backdrop for the story worked very well, nice photography, nice song picturisation even though they were not really inspired (though I liked the blue backdrop in both sarees and set design of Lucky's dream sequence).

Chalte Chalte
Jeesh ... how I love this movie ... count me the ways...
AT LAST - after Swades - SRK's wardrobe finally arrived in the 21st century. Shirts that fit, even though some where a bit hard on the eyes, jeans that fit very well and a haircut that showed off his nice strong hair but wasn't floppy.
SHAH RUKH - his acting was great. Very laid back and not overacting AT ALL. Very nice touch and I really thought he was brilliant in the final quarrel scene where I thought he would just loose it and smack Rani's character instead of vice versa.
RANI MUKHERJEE - the more I see her the more I love her and the more I see similiarities with Kajol. In profile she very much looks like her older and more experienced cousin, but boy, this woman is not only beautiful but also has talent in spades. I loved her very much in this movie.
Johnny Lever - nice touch with the Dilwale song, but for the first time he didn't get on my nerves and served his purpose as a comic relief yet tragic character. Give that man more supporting roles with a tragic bend, he can do it.
The supporting cast - hands down very well cast till down the last of the tiniest role. Thumbs up for the casting director.
The setting - very normal, very culture shocking as it showed Mumbai at its Western high-rising best and the little suburbs that still seem like Indian villages. Both worlds reside side by side and the movie showed it.

Quick question for my Masala filmi Pagalis:
What si the name of the movie with kajol where she plays a single mother? I think it is with Ajay Devgan.
Additonally, any good movie with Salman Khan in the lead?

In Dil Kya Kare Kajol plays a single mother who gave her child up for adoption.

I really liked Salman in Chori, Chori, Chupke, Chupke (with Rani and Preity as his co-stars).

A very famous movie with him is Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, but he plays a joker/funny (but also romantic) type of character there. I personally found him kind of annoying, but a lot of people adore this movie and consider it one of his best. Ash and Ajay are his co-stars in that one.

I liked him in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. It's a very recent comedy with Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar. But it might not be your thing if you know that Hindi humor doesn't usually work for you.

Tere Naam is his most lauded performance. It's quite a dark story for Salman Khan standards. I didn't like it, but a lot of people worship it and say that it was *the* thing that convinced them that Salman has some depth and potential acting abbility after all.

I didn't care for Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. I LOVED the music, but that was it. I don't care for Salman in over the top comedy roles like this one. But I definitely agree with Tere Naam. You must see that if you like Salman in serious roles.
