This afternoon we went for a walk at the River Rhine and it was amazing how fast the river area can change in just one week. The area right beside the river where we walked last week where all flooded and so we had to walk right beside the dyke. The complete beach where Chica learnt swimming last summer was all completely gone, all under water. And now we have Rhine islands again ... small strips of land in the water, greens and browns on silver.

There was a kitesurfer stranded on one of the islands and the whole scenery was eery. I love the Lower Rhine Area with its poplars, and those wide, wide horizons and steel-blue skies.

You are welcome :) The colours are very much what I associate with our countryside here in Western Germany. In summer all the greens come into play as well from the willows, birk and poplars. I don't like much of the typical German countryside (Black Forrest & mountains) that ppl imagine when thinking of Germany, it is only a minute part of our country and down in the South and has nothing to do with us Rhinelanders :)

Beautiful! Sometimes it still amazes me how beautiful Germany is. This sounds weird, doesn't it? But then again, D-Town is one of the loveliest areas anyway. Lucky you!

You are right, I don't normally care for German landscape so far but the Lower Rhine area is beautiful :)

The Lower Rhine area is principally a flat area that runs towards the North Sea. It is a beautiful landscape and full of legends (the Nibelungen legend stems from here and one of Henry VIII's wives, Anne of Cleves, comes from here) - I always loved the open horizons and spaces, I feel closed in by mountains.
