Musings on reading and writing

Just finished one of the newest books of Minette Walters, Fox Evil, and I have to say it did leave me highly dissatisfied. Two years ago I read the last book of her, The Shape Of Snakes, and I had goosebumps all over my skin when I finished it... it was that good.Anyway, Fox Evil on the other hand ... I still not sure what to think of it ... all was wrapped up nicely in the last two pages of the book which reminded me too much of the old Agatha Christie books than anything else. Perhaps I didn't like the book because I didn't like the main protagonists, I couldn't get a grip on Martin and Nancy, they didn't touch me as much as some of the other Walter's protagonists.
Re-read Mel's Literary Giants and starting on Phyl's Moving Finger Writes. I'm - after all these years - still amazed about both ladies' talents. Mel and Phyl write with a depth and emotion that isn't easily found in both fan and pro-fiction.
Literary Giants had me in tears in parts and rightly so. It is one strong tale, and unique at that to use two canon characters and weave a new, second season story line around them. Two characters, mind you, who were not obvious, not at all.
On a different note, I had a wonderful idea for a scene for Devil's Bride. I have long given up in writing chronologically. I only write down what comes easily to me and not forcing myself to write crap :s
