scottishlassKusanagi-san was released about an hour ago (8 AM my time) from the police station after he had a trip to the hospital to get treated for hangover symptoms and immediate dehydration.
It is said he has seen the prosecutor and now awaits decision whether or not charges are pressed againsthim. If he is prosecuted he can face up to 6 month in prison or a hefty fine.
He was found naked and drunk (dangerously close to alcohol poisoning) at 3 AM on 23rd April, shouting and singing and reportedly calling out Shingo's name (Katori Shingo, his SMAP band member). Tsu already has a history of alcohol abuse, additionally his bandmembers know that he takes his clothes off when he is wasted. Until yesterday, he only took off his clothes indoors and only in secure surroundings (e.g. Nakai's apartment).
Even though JE hasn't released anything official yet, Tsuyoshi has been removed from the official media site at JE and he faces suspension. Let's hope he uses this time away from the whole entertainment circle to get into rehab and tackle his problem with the excessive drinking.
What I can't understand is why this whole incident was so blown out of proportion. Salary men get wasted and worse nightly in Tokyo and elsewhere and most of the time they get picked up by the police and then safely sent on their way. With Tsuyoshi they not only detained him for 24 hours, the police also searched his apartment AFTER drug testing came up negative in his case.
Well done, Japanese police ... NOT!
Meanwhile, Tsuyoshi has lost all his CM contracts. There is also discussion of postponing an upcoming movie where he stars in. The incident even made international news because Toho (the movie's production company) and Victor Entertainment (SMAP's CD/DVD publishers) stocks dropped considerably due to Kusanagi's behaviour. Oh, Tsuopon, this is not the way I imagined you and SMAP getting international recognition.
The asshole Minister of Communication apologised for calling Tsuyoshi the worst of men. I guess outraged SMAP fans tore him a new one via phone and fax. Hatoyama-san, election time is coming up, I doubt you'll get re-elected.
