Dog Days ...

scottishlassWhen looking out the window I cannot help but muse about the fact that these August days have been known since Roman times as the dog days ... the days where Sirius (the dog star) rises together with the sun marking hot days with strange things happening. Every other day we have heat waves only to be rainy and cold the next day or two. It's strange how much the weather is screwed up recently. Today it is cloudy and windy but very sticky and after a few steps outside you are covered in sweat. It is really strange, especially as the dark greens of the trees looks so rich and succulent and totally contrary to the grey skies above.
Anyway, the dog days here consist of long walks with the dogs, lazing around, dozing off and/or eating light lunches and dinners. And cherishing the fact that vegetables and fruits are here a-plenty. OMG! Yesterday I was shopping at the local market and the stalls seemed to be brimming over with local produce: cherries so dark and fat and sweet, you could almost taste the sweetness of the sticky juice; green apples, tart and lemony in taste; blue and blackberries - tart and sweet with their distinctive smell; pears golden and just right to be bitten into; and the plum .. OMG! the big, soft almost black plums that are sweet and soft and the Zwetschgen (sour plums) best used for cakes and tartes. Then there are the cauliflower and green cabbages, cabbage turnips and sweet turnips, the rows upon rows of different potatoes with their red, blue or golden skin. Salads from plain green lettuce to Romaine, with delicately stemmed herbs in all shape and form.
I got almost giddy with the smells and sights. As a vegetarian it was a sight to behold and the many dishes I could make from all of these - just yummy.
I have watched My Tutor Friend 2, a Korean movie. Having been a fan of the original movie (My Tutor Friend with Kwon Song-woo as the lead and Gong Yoo in a supportive role), I was hesitant to watch it but I have to say, the movie was better than the summary and the movie poster suggested and could stand on its own. Cute little flick with an adorable OTP.
I changed the colours of my LJ ... the blue really got on my nerves :)
