I wasn't impressed.

It is already a painful experience to see any *sandal movie* (the derogatory term of movies with Greek or Roman time lines over here in Europe) but Petersen's movie was far too long, far too *posy*.

I loved Peter O'Toole and Eric Bana in the movie .... oh and yes Sean Bean. These three gave some outstanding performances
Poor Eric though ... the last Hollywood blockbusters he was in he only played tragic heros (Troy, Black Hawk Down) even though he is one of the most funniest comedians Oz had in a long time. But he does heroic and dramatic very well. I would like to see more of him.

Brad Pitt morphs more and more into a Robert Redford clone IMHO the older he gets (didn't he hit the big Four Zero this year?) And godammit but throughout his scenes I had Madonna's Vogue playing in my head ... Now strike a pose and VOO-OGUE.

OB ... hmm... okay, so he didn't have much lines in LOTR as to show his acting talent (and I grow to suspect that it did us much good), then he was very expressive in POTC where he tried so fiercely to counter-act to JDepp's wonderful Cpt. Sparrow (perhaps someone should have told him that you cannot hold a candle to Johnny when he enjoys acting such a character so much. You just do your best and act normal otherwise you become a comic act and Will Turner sometimes did).
Now in Troy ... oh-uh ... nu-huh ... nice bod but the acting (esp. the OVERacting) and those *expressive* eyebrows and nose wrinkles really REALLY got on my nerves ...oh and that hair ... talking about a bad hair day here ... 1970's here I come :s

I know exactly how you feel. I want to see the movie and at the same time be afraid of beeing disappointed. But my niece saw it - and she is by no means a OB fan and she liked it. So maybe - I´ll go and watch it anyway.

Yes, the only thing that gives me hope is that my dearest Net friend and beta loved it and I totally trust her judgement. Maybe I will be brave in the next week or so and pop off to see it. Let me know what you think of it if you beat me to it! :)

Just seen it

Hi Lady,
just back from the cinema, where I have seen Troy. I went with a lot of anticipation and... I loved it.
The actors were really good - all of them. I liked Orlando Blooms performance. He had to play a spoiled, rich kid and he did well. Maybe he was a bit overacting in the lovescenes, but everything else was great. I don´t want to go into detail, in case you haven´t seen the movie yet.
I was very impressed with Brad Pitt, which I don´t like that much - or not at all, after his Joe Black Performance. But here he really convinced me. I heard that Wolfgang Petersen said, this is his best performance - maybe even good for an Oscar - and I thougt "never", but after seeing the movie, I agree.

So, if you haven´t seen it, go ahead, I am sure you like it. Drop me a line if you have, and we can exchange opinions.
Alice

Hi Alice! I'm feeling reassured now! My beta is coming down to Sydney for a visit in a couple of weeks time, and if Troy is still playing we might go and see it. I'll let you know what I think!

Thanks for you message, love!
