[hindi movie] One 2 Ka 4

scottishlassOkay, I finished watching the movie and I enjoyed it very much even though there was some really bad hamming from the bad guys in this film. Stars are Juhi Chawla, Jackie Schroff and Shah Rukh Khan, and it was th first time I watched Jackie Schroff in one of the more recent movies and I liked him as the police officer and loving father to four kids.
I also liked Juhi Chawla, which I found really annoying (along with Karishma Kapoor) in Dil To Pagal Hai. I liked both her Punjabi Geeta, as well as the more modern character.
So what is the movie all about? Well, it has a similar police/super agent kind of background as Main Hoon Na though it tries to be even more serious (and failing terribly IMHO) than MHN.
Plot:
It's 2001 in Mumbai, and Javed Abbas (Jackie Shroff) and Arun Verma (Shahrukh Khan) are members of a special task force that combats drug traffic. Their main target is a notorious drug lord called K.K.V. (Nirmal Pandey) who has a night club called Flamingo. They can arrest him but due to his connections in the hierachy of the police department as well as to the justice dept, he gets free and Arun and Javed look like idiots. During another drug raid, Javed gets killed and Arun has to take care of his four children...
Unfortunately, from here it turns a wee bit into a slap stick comedy as the director wanted to show how the development of Arun from tough kid-hating cop to loving father would happen. Unfortunately, he used really bad slapstick. Though it was funny to see SRK made up as Batman, Superman and a cute Bengal Tiger as well as strangely enough Kishen the ghost from the original book on which Paheli is based
I thought it was absolutely silly and unnecessary. One song you could have done without.
Anyway, Arun has a hard time with his best friend's kids as they blame him for the death of their father. So he asks Geeta, an acquaintance of Javed and himself, to help with the kids. It gets slightly better on the home front whereas on the job front it gets clear, Arun runs into one problem after the other.
Frustrated he storms into the Flamingo club and comes across a very different Geeta. A Geeta who is not only the club's singer but also K.K.V.'s little love bird...
Of course Arun has fallen in love with Geeta and seeing her there makes him mad. Geeta can somehow persuade him that she is not the clu's singer but things go downhill anyway. They get a notice on the house and are forced to move out. The children get more hostile and as a last resort, Arun who is in dire need of money, robs K.K.V. off his drug money. Geeta is present and knows it is Arun but doesn't say anything.
With the robbed money he buys a house for the children and gives the rest of the blood money to an orphanage. Ppl get ansy abouthim buying a new house and he is being framed to be working with K.K.V. At an official inquest, Arun finds out who Geeta really is - an undercover cop. He is being suspended and now wants to find out who is really involved in the whole drug's deal as well as who killed Javed, his best friend. So Geeta and Arun get on a rampage in the monsoon drenched streets of nightly Mumbai, not knowing that the killer is too near and that almost the whole of the police department is involved in the trafficking of drugs. The killer of Javed is much closer than Arun and Geeta think...
What I liked: Umm.. the clothes ... SRK's clothes were stylish and apart from his suits they fit him. The Jackie/Shah Rukh chemistry, they had more chemistry than Juhi/Shah Rukh, who came across as a bro/sis jodi but not as actual lovebirds IMHO.
I liked Geeta's character a lot, Juhi played a kick ass chick and I loved her in this film. For the first time I really, really liked her.
I loved the fact that although SRK loves children dearly he tried to portray someone who doesn't like them at all and thinks they are an overall pest. And man, had he a hard time of it :)
And please give King Khan more action orientated roles. He rolls, shoots and sneers like the best of them, and I like him in holster and safety vest. :D
What I didn't like: Either it was intentional or not but the whole secret police squadron came across as a bunch of dolts with only Javed and Arun as the cool guys, but even only slightly. And for god's sake who has heard about a police squad using VINTAGE motorbikes as their official police vehicles?? I haven't seen so many 500cc BMWs as well as Yamaha's TX 650 models since I went to a vintage motorcycle meeting.
And please could someone tell Jackie and SRK that holding your gun gangsta style just looks silly?? You can get away with it if you are John Crichton or actually one of the Hoods but Indian police officers? I don't think so.
The music, even though by AR Rahman, is nothing to write home about. I have never come across Rahman's music that sounded so uninterested as these songs. Normally they stuck in your head, but this time I'm drawing a big fat blank :-(
So why did I have such a good time watching that movie?
Hmm good question. I think it is the fact that there is one scene with SRK all wet under the shower, out of the shower, wearing only a towel. (OMG I'm easy *LOL*)
Seriously, it was just good old fun, even though the violence is nothing I would recommend as family friendly (lots of chest and head shots), the whole thing was more of a comedy than a serious thriller. I guess you can't have a serious thriller once your tough male lead has danced across the screen in a tiger costume with fake whiskers or as a 1920's mob guy in a fedora ;-)
