... or would it be as erotic by any other name?
There was an entry by Viv recently I think about purple prose versus the real thing, esp. in smut scenes. Stuff like ... velvet rod or secret love pearl were discussed which I have to admit I have been using from time to time as well, depending in which genre I am writing (the more purple prose I get the more I distance myself from my own time line - medieval setting = VERY purply; modern time = normal anatomical words with a bit of purple thrown in)
So, this is a question for my fellow writers:
Which books/fics have you read recently where you liked the smut scenes?
The following are my fave list of five:
Naked In Death by J.D. Robb aka Nora Roberts (the first time Eve and Roarke have sex)
Jennifer Crusie's Manhunting (Jake is better than chocolate)
Key Trilogy by Nora Roberts
Unless by Viv (OB fan fiction)
To Make You Feel My Love by Kelly Hill (Farscape fan fiction)
So what are yours?

I'll have to think of those top-5 things. Miriel wrote something very recently that actually made me flush and turn on the fan. She's so good at evocation.
In published books, despite the fact that I read a lot of romance novels (they're like crack!), the two scenes that pop into my mind first are the goddess-consuming-her-worshipper scene from Neil Gaiman's American Gods (it's just vile, but so fabulous) and the constant and deliciously frustrating Stephanie/Ranger almost-smut scenes in Janet Evanovich's novels. 'Course it doesn't hurt that Ranger is teh hawt.
