Celebrating life
Mar. 27th, 2008 10:42 pmToday we drove up to Wesel which is about 70 kilometers North of my home town to have chica's body cremated. It was a nice, simple little affair and we were with Chica all the way up to the cremation oven as well as watching as after just an hour, her remains were put into an urn. She had so tiny white bones ... little vertebraes and rips, and really tiny toe bones. We even recognized a small tooth before it all was ground down.
Now she is safely put away in a wooden urn and once the weather improves her ashes will be distributed at her favourite spot at the River Rhine.
Home feels really different without the sound of little paws following me and I think it will be a long time before I can gaze at her basket without getting teary eyed. Nevertheless this posting is to celebrate Chica and her life with us. She received all the love a little dog could possibly get and in return we got so much love, neediness and trust from her. She was in all her stubborness the perfect dog for us.
2 years ago, Chica came to us from Spain. She was just another old dog who had been discarded and thrown away like trash. She had been in one of the Spanish perreras that kill stray and homeless dogs. She then was saved and when we saw her pictures, we knew this is THE ONE!! Soon this old, tired dog who was ill turned into a confident, happy, HEALTHY little diva. She came, inspected her home and she stayed. It seemed as if we had taken her in as a puppy and she had spent her whole life with us and not just a few days. She was the best thing that happened to me and His Hubbiness
March 2006 - Chica's first day and she claims her favourite spot - the sofa
December 2006 - Chica, almost blind, gets surprised that her dad is right in front of her
February 2007 - Chica discovers modern technology: Ain't no toy in this thing
May 2007 - Chica wants male doggy attention
Chica & Cenour playing (November 2007 - we already had the diagnosis that she has cancer)
Chica multitasking - growling and yawning at the same time (December 2007)
Chica in December 07

Chica in January 08 ... she still has fun

I really miss her but then again, we knew that she would pass sooner or later. Perhaps she is even now watching me and laughing silently about her silly mom :D
