My condolences to those families who have lost loved ones in the gun shooting at Winnenden Middle School.

Atm, 16 ppl are dead, 9 students, 3 teachers, 1 school employee and 2 passers by. Police seem to have shot the gun man who is supposedly a 17 year old ex-student of the Middle School.
Several ppl are still in critical condition.

Nope, this is the second time it has happened over here as well. With guns from the father who has a license for guns because he is a hunter.

Yeah ... and the father didn't secure the weapon's cache. He is questioned now and he might end up in court, for enabling.

Over here you can only acquire a gun license when you are over 21, never had any criminal record AND have a positive report from police. Children that want to pick up sports with weapons (sport-shooting, triathlon, hunting etc.) get a B-license and do not own any weapons. They have to use weapons from the club they have to be a member of and are not allowed to use and handle the weapons of a family member.

just checked .. this is not the second time it happened ... we had several similar shootings since 1999:

9th November 1999: Meißen/Saxony - a pupil storms into a classroom and stabs his ex-teacher to death in front of the whole class, afterwards he tries to kill himself.

16th March 2000: Brannenburg/Bavaria - as he was suspended the day before, a pupil shoots the director of his school, before trying to commit suicide. The director dies six days later due to a shot to his head.

19th February 2002: Bavaria - a 22 yr. old ex-student storms his school and kills 3 people, among them the director of his old school.

26. April 2002: Erfurt/Thuringia - 19 yr. old ex-student kills 8 female teachers, 4 male teachers, 1 female student and 1 male, plus a police officer at his former school. He went into classes just for his pre-chosen victims, he ignored most of the students. He offs himself afterwards.

2nd July 2003: Coburg/Frankonia - a 16 yr. old storms into a clssroom and tries to shoot his female teacher. Then he shoots the school psychologist before killing himself.

20th November 2006: Emsdetten/NRW - Storming a school, a gun man kills 1 and injures 37 critically with guns and bombs. When police surrounded the building he kills himself.

OMG that's really scary! I suppose in the course of all the other crimes that go on, these are spaced out so it at least hasn't become 'common', still, what motivates kids to do something like this? there doesn't seem to be any connection...
