Point one ... sometimes German ppl are total idiots.

Why?
When someone makes a posting about our job system and how it is so bad yada yada yada almost everyone and their dog chimes in. Well, nothing to get mad about you say, and I would agree with you BUT!! If said posting is layered with fascist terminology and right wing opinions of how foreigners take up all the good jobs, I GET MASSIVELY TICKED OFF!!!

Especially when I see WHO posts such crap. Mostly these are low education drop outs and underachiever who will never score a well paid job anyway, foreigners or not. For the normal job market with pension plans, dentals and all I have been far too overly educated, I'm too expensive for a normal company to pay, esp. a woman in my age. Hence me going free-lance to earn at least a bit of money without doing a job that is so totally beneath my educational achievements. But would I ever blame this on any foreigners having similar jobs to those I personally want? No fucking way.

I really hate this kind of thinking .. if you can't get your ass off the couch blame it on others who look different, sound different. Been there, done that ... got us 12 years of Fascist regime and MILLIONS of dead, thank you very much.

Why do you think this is something specifically German? This kind of ppl exist in every country of this world, in every time of the human history. To blame strangers and foreigners who came from abroad in local problems - it's a common thing for human mentality. IMHO, it always had been and always will be. People are always the same and don't change.

OH I know these idiots are a global thing but I do expect a little bit of reflection from my fellow country-men due to our history. They can think it, but they certainly shouldn't post it in a public forum.

IMHO, for ppl it's impossible to remember history forever. The 2d WW was SO long time ago. The majority of those who took part in it are already in graves. And for young generation history is just history, they don't feel themselves bonded with it or don't feel the blame... There were their grand-grand-fathers who started that war, not them. This is life, too.

And... if they think in this way, why should not they express their opinions? Even if their ideas are wrong? Don't you think it is worse if they hide their real thoughts and feelings? May be it's better fto be honest, at least other ppl can make their opinion about them?

Not here in Germany ... in our history and social study lessons we get Hitler and the third Reich shoved down our throats. One of our first civil duties - we are reminded - is to fight against fascism and Neo-Nazism. SO no, for Germans, the war and what the German people did or let happen is very much still a part of our lives.

As for publicly vent those opinions ... it is against the law and can be prosecuted under *Volksverhetzung*. Esp. not only those who actually voice such opinions can be brought to court but those who own the forum as well and didn't do anything against it. We here have also the right of free speech, as long as it isn't about favouring fascism.

Hmm... if to follow this logic, should I, Russian, hate you, German, because of the terrible war crimes some other Germans had done in my country to my fathers and grandfathers almost 70 years ago? May be some of you relatives were at the East front, too in 40s, ne?

No, I don't want to hate. History is history. Let's past be past. Not you, not I hadn't take part in that terrible part of history.

I already have told you once that I don't think this approach to be good. Sooner or later it will bring back reaction.

IMHO, this is not right to clame the whole nation guilty in something - even so many decades after the event. Past is past and all of us should move on into the future. IMHO, this is not wise to live in the past, blaming present generations in the guilts of the grand-grand dads.

I also know a little bit about other side of the story because I have met few ppl from Eastern Europe here (Poland, Lithuania). They all seem to work doing 40+ hours on jobs that British people would never even consider doing. What is it they are talking about?

Yup .. it is both reassuring and scary that those ppl can be found anywhere on the face of Earth.

It doesn't mean we hate or something ... it is a constant reminder that Germans, due to their history, should make a double effort to avoid wars and stuff.
Of course we hav ppl who think the past is the past let's move on, but I think it is important that esp. Germans or their government should now work as meditators ... because our forfathers showed what the human mind can come up with in a most evil way. Of course wars have always been happening, in other countries similar atrocities have been committed and are still being committed, but for us it is a part of our heritage (might it be good or worse) to fight against this. And the younger generations - esp. mine - have understood this.
Because Germans showed in those 12 years of 2rd Reich what the human being is capable of, we have to show that we can also work in the opposite direction, from warmonger and mass destructors to peace bringer and mediators.
no matter what we as a people have achieved beforehand or will still be achieving, these 12 years are like a stain on our nation's soul. You cannot forget it, you cannot escape it. But because of this we try to make our society a better society, with lots of different ppl, religions and colours. Call it the maniacal passion of us Germans :)

Exactly ... I really don't know why they are complaining. I mean they would never work as refuse workers or something, and still they blame it on either the foreigners or on ppl seeking refuge in our country ... they even blame immigrants from the former Soviet Union who have been Germans once and now come back here (we had an influx of Russian-German Jews and Christians in the 90's). It only makes our daily life much more colourful and interesting. For a couple of years our local temple didn't have any Jewish marriages anymore and now lmost every week there is marriage or a burial. Because my grandfather was Jewish I love seeing Jewish life return to the public eyes.

I think if it is not the immigrants or foreign workers, it is something else ... they just want to blame anyone instead of seeking the problem within themselves :s

Well, For me it seems strange, I can't understand this approach, it seems to me ...how to say...masochistic a but. ;) But, OK it's your personal choice.

Also, honestly I don't believe in those idealistic ideas of "better society"; real situation seems to me far from it and it moves not to the better direction.

OK, I never lived in Germany, only visited you country few times. But I lived in France and saw with my own eyes that problems and tension between frenchmen and immigrants and their children were strong enough and only increased. The newcomers didn't adapt well enough, they didnt become french, they just spoke french, but kept their own mentality that was quite different from European. They were like two different worlds that don't really mix...

And this problem is real - different mentality is not a myth. IMHO, the problem will only be worsen in the close future. Especially now, in the time of worldwide economic crisis. I suppose that now, when ppl in Europe start to loose job and level of income, problems between "natural" inhabitants and immigrants will seriously increase... And the number of ppl, who think like that person, you wrote in your post about, will seriously increase. It's a pity, but this is a reality of this world, history says this always happends in hard times.

We also have this kind of problems, may be the angle is a bit different, because Russia is multinational and multi-religious country already for many-many centuries... But ppl's basic psychology is the same everywhere and the instinctive feeling of "he's part of us"/"he's stranger" still exists on subconscious level in everyone.
