SanTaku 2008

Thanks to rika_66 I was able to watch this year's SanTaku
Strangely enough this year's SanTaku seemed a bit disjointed and disorganized. They probably didn't have two full days of filming on location and it showed.

Additionally, they picked up the let's find a date for Sanma again but this time there was slight variation as they brought in an actress/model Sanma apparently has a crush on.

I liked their little ventures into Kendo (Kimura of course won), Sumo (Sanma had more bulk and won) and surfing (and unlike 2003 Sanma went into the water at last and surfed - or tried to anyway). It was nice to see Kimura just laying on his surfboard, and watching the sea while the crew filmed Sanma and the actress/model. When he came out of the water he looked refreshed, calm and collected.

They also learnt and posed as male geisha dancers or better yet taishū engeki, male impersonators of female roles in Kabuki related theatre. While the male dancer looked pretty and adorably bored, Kimura - just as stunning - looked bitchy but not bored as a male dancing geisha. And OMG without the makeup the guy looked like Lee Jun-ki who is a really pretty young actor by the name of Saotome Taichi.


He does look like Jun-ki (the nose is different though) and his voice, almost the same deep timbre ...

There was a lot of Sanma and only little of Kimura. It seemed Kimura-san only stepped in as a cue giver rather than a real participant. And didn't he have any breakfast? While at the restaurant opening (?) of a fellow actor, while Snama and said actor were talking to each other, Kimura was eating, eating, eating.
Last year's was much better!!

Can it be Kimura-san has quit smoking? While Sanma was smoking like his usual self, Kimura didn't lit ONE cigarette on the whole show. That would explain his eating and that he isn't so skinny (still is but not as bad as earlier last year) anymore, he looked good in his wetsuit. Kudos to him if he has indeed quit.

Yeah, I also noticed that Kimura-kun ate like they make him to starve for a week. And, yeah, He didn't smoke!

Keh, if he's trying to quit smoking, it's really good for him. Butin this case he needs to be more careful about diet - ot he's risking to get BIG extra weight.

I think he won't get too big ... if it is true that they are preparing for the recording of the new album (perhaps that is why he quit smoking) then the preparation for the concerts in the summer AND the filming of the dorama for March he won't have much down time (and time for eating).

You should watch SMAPxSMAP, in their bistro section while the guest decides which cooking team has won, SMAP are allowed to eat. They ALL just shove the food into their mouths like they are starving. I think they don't get much catering from JE. In the early eps it is even more evident than now. but they still eat as if they haven't had a kernel of food for at least a few days.

BTW, for me this SanTaku was quite good... Because I have nothing to compare wiith. I didn't see previous shows.

BTW, I wanted to ask you... You have already so many SMAP video...

Do you have their scandalous Christmas 1998 Special - the fictional story where SMAP boys perform a murder during the concert - I think of a blackmailer? I've seen only some glimpses of it and Kimura was quite scary there...

I'm very curious about this criminal play.

Woah .. never heard of that one ... I do have a Christmas Special from 1998 but it doesn't have a murder in it :(
But I have a very strange Special with Kimura from 1999 where he plays a killer(?) Haven't seen it yet. Shall I upload it?

A killer? in 99? May be I got the wrong date and that Special I mentioned was from 99, not 98?

I've seen only 3 short parts of thatr Special on YouTube - the boys play themselves - everything is going on during their concert in Tokio- they organize and perform a murder of some man behind the stage, just before the show starts. It seems, that Kimura is a leader in the affair, but they do it all together - attack the man and hang him in some empty room behind the stage... And after it imemdiately go to the stage - to perform the concert... I saw exactly the part with last preparations and murdering the victim - and after. The boys all look scary, very dark scene...

No the one I have is totally diffrent. But seeing the youtube movie I think it is this Drama SPECIAL: Furuhata Ninzaburo vs. SMAP from Jan 03 1999.
I checked d-addicts, but it is not seeded. I have requested it at SMAP4u hoepfully someone has it.

WOW I noticed that too! He didn't even smoke one cigarette! I can't believe he has quit smoking. Maybe he smokes less. It's a good thing anyway.
And I liked the way he was eating while Sanma and his fellow were talking. When he wanted the chicken and Sanma pushed him away, he kept saying : kore, kore, kore... just like a child! Made me laugh so hard.
