Wise and beautiful
Dec. 28th, 2007 03:02 pmYesterday we first went to a friend to go walking with our dogs and then we had a date with Yvonne, a friend of ours, who wants to set up a foto studio (for dogs) for some picture taking. Our dogs were her guinea pigs and it turned out really well.
But first let me tell you about one of her dogs, Luna. Luna is a big Podenco Ibenico and of course, is an animal shelter dog like ours from Spain.
Luna is old, her snout is already grey and she cannot walk well due to both her front paws being disfigured. She was misused and abused (sexually), was used as a breeding machine and dumped at a perrera when the tumors in her mamma were too big to give milk to her puppies.
Her left ear was pierced and a hole, looking like it has been done by a paper hole puncher, is in her ear that severed her sinew and muscle so that it is all floppy and hanging down.
At first glance, she is no beauty.
On second glance, she is the most beautiful dog on this world.
I had the pleasure to cuddle with Luna yesterday and it is amazing how trusting and loving she is. She has every reason to distrust humans, esp. men, but once she knows you are safe, she is a true cuddle monster.
She really wants to crawl into you and enjoys being cuddled, fondled and hugged. Her look out of deep, wise eyes affects you. She makes you smile, and she makes you cry when you think about all the bad things that happened to her.

Her mama is a wonderful woman too ... she saw her and knew right off, this is her dog. She took her in, not knowing how much time Luna had left as the tumors still had to be removed and the vets weren't sure if Luna would make it. They removed almost 2 kilos of tumor from her mamma but since then (3 years ago) the cancer didn't come back. Luna still has disfigured paws but she can run and jump and walk with them and even though she doesn't look beautiful or even lovely with all her flaws, she has a beautiful soul which transcends to the outside world once you just stay in her company and be with Luna.

The photos of Chica and Cenour turned out really well. Here are a few ... we took over 200 in all and my little pigs actually sat still for a few seconds :D

Date: 2007-12-28 09:45 pm (UTC)When Chica was photographed alone, Luna and Cenour lay side by side (something Cenour NEVER does with any dog) and watched everything while I had to fondle both.
Chica with her winter fur resembles more and more a Steiff plushie, just the button is missing in her ear ;)
