Perhaps I'm too dense for the finer sublety of Korean love drama - mind you, at first I didn't get the ending of Il Mare, so it might be true. But somehow I don't think I'm THIS dense.

Why?

Because I don't understand what the whole hype is about ... about Full House.

Summary
Lee Young-Yae (Rain/Bi) is a hot item in Korea, he is an actor and highly in demand. On a business trip to Shanghai he accidentally meets Ji-Eun (Song Hye Gyo) who was given this trip by her friends.

First impressions are bad but when Ji-Eun realizes her best friends have robbed her and left her stranded in Shanghai she turns to the only other fellow Korean who happens to be Young-Yae.
By swindling about her relationship to his best friend Min-Hyuk, she can get money from him to get back to Korea only to find out that Young-Yae's newly acquired house is actually Ji-Eun's which her friends had sold off while she was in Shanghai.
As Young-Yae is deeply in love with Hae-Woo who in turns loves Min-Hyuk who in turn becomes interested in Ji-Eun who in turn falls for the actor ... well, anyway, to get back at Huyng-Woo he deliberately creates a scandal involving Ji-Eun and they are forced to marry. As Ji-Eun has still pay back the money she lent from Young-yae, they agree on a contract marriage, living for six months together till the scandal has died down and then Ji-Eun would get back her house and her services as maid would end.

Up to this point it is somewhat clear, but then the whole series takes a swing downside. There is yelling, fighting and childish games as Young-yae plays master of the house and Ji-Eun just takes it. Okay, so they fight, but in the end, she just plays doormat for him because she loves him. And he always runs to his best friend and love interest who in turn is turned down by Min-Huyk and then promptly tries to snatch Young-Yae.

Cast
Rain can sing better than talking in this series, because this guy mumbles and sometimes the Korean words sound much more Portuguese than Korean. I liekd him a lot better in Sang Doo. The others were sort of okay.

My take on it
I was seriously rooting for Ji-Eun and Min-Huyk. Honestly, here is a man who seriously falls in love for the first time, who is rich, handsome, drops everything when his woman is in need of help and who is refined, soft spoken and a sharp business man - Roarke in Korean, I tell you.

And what does this stupid chicken Ji-Eun do? She yearns for this stupid I don't know what I should do so I return to my old flame-idiot Young-Yae. He treats her like a convenience store, keeps her at his beck and call and calls her stupid. A more insecure man I have not seen. Besides he is obsessed with cleanliness and neatness. He even does make my mother who is a control and cleanliness freak look innocent beside him. But to top it all, even though he doesn't seem to stick to his marriage vows (mooning over Hae-Woo) he tries to break up the tentative friendship/courting of Min-Huyk and Ji-Eun. When he finally reliazes that he likes her, he deliberately leaves her because she makes him happy and moves in with Huyng-Woo because of a stupid promise he made when he was 9 years old that he would always protect HW.

And Hae-Woo? Oh MY GOD, a more self-centered, selfish person I haven't seen in days. She uses Young-Yae as an emotional dust bin while mooning over Min-Huyk but as soon as MH makes it clear that she is not for him and that Young-Yae is married she switches her feelings and openly pursues YY. HOMEWRECKER-SLUT!
For my taste, they could have stopped the whole thing with ep 9 or 10. A most unlikely OTP I haven't seen.

The fighting gets old after a while and I think as a woman ji-Eun should only take this much of bull from YY. That is not testing one's love but destroying it.
