Had already ordered the book, but my order got cancelled due to a plagiarism claim.

As a writer I have experienced similar issues, either as being plagiarised or writing a piece of original fiction and then after reviewing it after a couple of days, noticing I have channelled one of my fave authors. I erase that stuff as soon as I discover it, so no harm done.
But what that girl did, it is claimed she copied over 45 passages from five different books unintentionally ... nope, not buying it. If she has eidetic memory, she should have picked up on these passages. If I can do it, she could do it too ... and using her inexperience at 19 ... sorry even with 19 she should have experience enough to know plagiarism doesn't get you further, it only gets you book deals that explode into your face and will discredit you for the rest of your life. Imagine, if she goes into research, all her papers will be scrutinised beyond all recognition because she was caught ones. With 19 she should have thought about that. But obviously she could only see the money, the fame and the glory ...

Ah yeah well, the perks and glories of being a publishing author. :snicker:

Gosh, that sucks! I'm glad they found her out, because that kind of thing is like a slap in the face to people like me. It's like people getting published with cutie little bookies that I could write too (no names here, and I'm not saying the first was no good because I thought that it was), only my daddy does NOT happen to be the prime minister of a country. As a writer, it angers me that I work my arse off brooding over things I write, and how scared I sometimes am that it's been done before (you CAN'T read EVERY book that has been written about your subject) or that it sounds too close to something I've just read that was influenced by. It reminds me of that one fanfiction on m.i.t.m., which I thought was hilarious until I read the books by Josie Lloyd and Emlyn Reese from which wide passages had been copied and just the names altered. ARGH!!!
