Today is the UNESCO Day of Illiteracy

Here in Germany we have over two to three million illiterate ppl and the number is growing world wide.

I have to admit I can't quite grasp the concept. Perhaps because the written word has always been so important for me from the earliest memory I have of my family. I couldn't possibly imagine how life would be without words ... without being able to create a whole world in your mind with words, to walk the worlds of others due to words. I'm glad I was able to learn to read and write, something that came so naturally to me.

Reasons why someone is illiterate (according to the UNESCO):
::. Never learnt it at school due to missing concentration
::. Because they are dyslexic
::. Were too lazy to be bothered to learn
::. Played hookey at school from an early age
::. Parents don't bother to check the progress of their primers

And my FTP conenction is also on the fluke and as long as I can't upload the main.php and old_update.html to my account there will be no work on m.i.t.m. I hate 1und1!!!

Solar probe crashed into the desert

We have a proverb here in Germany ... in den Sand gesetzt (dropped into the sand) which means F.U.B.A.R. in general, and it seems NASA did it again.
When the solar probe was started in 2001 I already thought that it was a ludicrous idea to catch the probe in the atmosphere by two stuntmen sitting in a helicopter with only five tries to catch it. Even back then I argued, what if the parachutes won't open? Then what??
*SIGH* Guess they bought the cheapest material from the cheapest seller again. *whimpers*

One blessed piece of land

Man, if I had the money I'd buy the Broken Wing ranch ... TK has to sell the ranch of her dad's and it is a beautiful piece of land, just about right for horse breeding.
You could breed thoroughbred there, beauties with long good legs and good hearts and lungs (because of the altitude) - damn good runners.

I guess I have to play the lottery and win
