Life has slowed down, most vegetable beds are bare now and ready for winter but my aubergines are still striving. This is the second time we experience harvest season now here in our little abode and I have to say it is even more fun than last year. We still have lots and lots of apples but with giving away a lot of them this year (opening up our garden for the public) we haven't had the sinking feeling of drowning in apples. We made apple juice (which has already been drunk!!!) and baked and cooked and it all has been fun.

However, I still have the feeling as if I'm mere dabbling in the way of homesteading. Probably because when I read blogs whose owners have been harvesting like mad and conserving full time this season I feel so incompetent. LOL IOh well, next year .. next year with the fence now sturdily in place and no way that the marauding chickens can eat up my budding cucumbers and courgettes etc. we will have a smashing good time. Over the winter I want to fix the greenhouse as well. Ever since Careto has ripped it apart I need to sew it again and hopefully it will be fixed easily.

I also want to do some sewing and crafting again ... there is a new quilt in the works as well as a crafting project for the bedroom (which still isn't painted btw) and I need to put up the finishing touches in the sewing room. *sigh* So much to do and so little time but with this coming winter hopefully being a cold long one again with lots of snow I hope to fin the time to finish up all my projects :)

or purse as the Americans would say.

What a few ppl only know is that despite my more casual shirt and jeans kind of clothes, I'm a sucker for hand bags (or purses). I love ... no I LOVE THEM. For years I have been trying to hunt down the perfect hand bag ... black leather, roomy enough to loose a folder or two in it and of course, with long handles so I can either slung it around my shoulder or wear it in my hand.

For years I have been alternating between a red Oilily diaper bag (yep, the red Swan LOL) and a real leather Kelly/Birkin bag reproduction. While I love both handbags, they have both seen better days, especially as the diaper bag is the favourite spot for Chandini to sleep on and/or in.

Anyway, my point in this post ...
Anyone know 'The Closer', the TNT TV series with Kyra Sedgwick? Her character Brenda Leigh Johnson has the perfect, and I mean PERFECT bag (among a wardrobe to kill for).

Apparently, a reproduction was available for a short time on QVC but it was in PVC and badly fabricated. It turns out that this bag was especially made for the Brenda Leigh character by the costume design department of the show. SIGH!

I'm obsessed ... I wonder if a good leather fabricator can reproduce this bag if given the right measurements. I'm determined to screencap any ep where this bag is shown LOL

I am seriously contemplating reproducing that cute as a button Black Watch Tartan bow coat I found yesterday. Topshop doesn't have it stocked anymore and they never had it in my size anyway.
I have found this Black Watch fabric on ebay, these buttons (I don't like gold, so I go for these silver-bronze Sakura style ones) and I think, if I completely drape it on my bust, I will manage to come up with something wearable. I won't add the zipper though, I want the more classic double buttoned style.

Now to order the fabric and the buttons :) And keep your fingers crossed I actually finish this coat before winter is out LOL

Tomorrow I'll pick up two mechanical sewing machines like this baby here.

Wonderful!!! I can now sew Turn of the Century and Edwardian costumes with the real deal.

I finally finished my Candies & Apples quilt. It didn't turn out as well as I thought, but I'm still experimenting.

Addtionally, Cenour seems to be his old self again and we are slowly upping his daily walks again after the disaster with his paw and his behind.
